This is a 5-6 mile circular walk that will start from the Ebbor Gorge National Trust car park (click for map link) on Deerleap – the road between Priddy and Wookey Hole. The walk that will include a steep ascent through Ebbor Gorge and take in the spectacular view from Ebbor Rocks southwards across the nature reserve and the Somerset Levels. From there we will head east for a mile or so on the West Mendip way towards Dursdon Wood, then head south downhill past Smokham Wood to Wookey Hole where we can have (optional) lunch at The Wookey Hole Inn which has a large garden at the back. After lunch we will head northwards on the West Mendip Way through Ebbor Wood and back to the car park.
Meet at St Andrews Park at 10am (at the entrance by the park toilets on Melita Road) or at the Ebbor Gorge car park at 11am (map link above). Walking time is estimated at about 3 hours and we can stop for lunch for up to an hour en route. The ascent through the gorge is fairly strenuous (takes about 20min) but otherwise the walk is fairly easy going.
Friends, family, children and dogs are welcome on the walk and part of the walk will be in silence. Please let Gordon know in advance if you plan to come on the walk, where you will join, and whether you would like or can offer a lift. He will send a reminder 1 week before the walk.
