The next Bristol Insight Sangha walk, on Saturday 15th June, will take in the Owlpen Valley and Uley Bury Hillfort in Gloucestershire. This will be the fourth time I’ve led this popular walk – the first time being in May 2014.
We start the walk in Nympsfield (near Stroud), ambling through the village then across some fields and woods to enter and descend the lovely Owlpen Valley. We then follow the road into Uley, ascend Uley Bury Hillfort (a moderate climb of about 20 minutes), and walk along the edge taking in spectacular views across Gloucestershire towards the River Severn. The return leg of the walk is through some lovely woodland, with one steepish climb (another 20 minutes or so) to ascend out into the fields near Nympsfield. Apart from the two climbs mentioned, the walk is fairly easy going.
Meet at 10am at St Andrews Park (top corner by the toilets) to share lifts and drive to Nympsfield via the M4 and A46. A second meet up point will be the start of the walk – at 11am at the car park of the Rose & Crown Pub in Nympsfield (GL10 3UG). The walk is about 6 miles and should take around 3-4 hours at a gentle pace, including a stop for picnic lunch at a suitable spot on the hillfort.
Family, friends, children and dogs are welcome and part of the walk (about 45 min) will be in silence.
Please let me know if you are planning to come on the walk, whether you can offer or require a lift from Bristol, and also whether you will join us at St Andrews Park or in Nympsfield.

HEALTH AND SAFETY – PLEASE READ
Every Bristol Insight activity is required to have a Health & Safety policy, partly for insurance purposes. Walkers are asked to abide by the following guidelines:
Please wear/bring clothing that is appropriate for the conditions and weather, for example: walking boots; waterproof (and ideally windproof) clothing; drinking water/tea; something to sit on for lunch/tea breaks; snacks; sun cream if the weather requires it; sunglasses.
Children and dogs are the responsibility of their parent(s)/guardian/owner and are not covered by BI insurance. Please be prepared to keep your dog on a lead if necessary (in certain nature reserves, or if livestock are in fields). The walk leader will carry a basic first aid kit.
The walk leader will give an advance assessment of the difficulty and conditions on the walk and will advise if any special precautions are needed. It is up to parents to assess whether the walk is within the capacity of any children. Walks are at a slow/gentle pace – we walk at the pace of the slowest person, and have frequent pauses in walking, so that no one feels pressurised to keep up.
With warm wishes,
Gordon
