This 5-6 mile walk starts and the quiet and picturesque village of Llanbedr, a couple of miles northeast of Crickhowell. After a brief walk along the road there is a fairly steep climb to the flat-topped summit of Table Mountain (c.420m), crowned with an Iron Age fort. A further more gentle climb leads to the limestone dome of Pen Cerrig-Calch, the highest point of the walk (710m). The return route retraces steps towards Table Mountain and then diverts northeast along part of the Beacons Way before following a different descending path back to Llanbedr.
The walk will probably take us about 4+ hours at a gentle pace, with a break for picnic lunch at the summit of Pen Cerrig-calc, the halfway stage of the walk. The first half of the walk is a steady mainly gentle ascent (apart from the ascent of Table Mountain), the return is a steady descent.
Family, friends, children and dogs are welcome on the walk, part of which will be in silence.
Meet at St Andrews Park at 9.30am (entrance near toilets at top of Melita Rd) or by the church in Llanbedr (click for Google map) at 10.45am. Bring a picnic lunch to eat during the walk (probably on Table Mountain). We can go for optional afternoon tea (or wine tasting) at Sugarloaf Vineyards after the walk.
Let Gordon if you’d like to join the walk, where you would like to meet, and whether you would like, or can offer a lift from Bristol.
