Long Ashton Sangha Walk (towards Ashton Plantation) – April 2021
I invite you to join me on a sangha walk in the fields and woodland around Long Ashton on Saturday 21st December.
The walk will start at the Long Ashton community centre car park on Keedwell Hill. We will head north up Keeds Lane and then in a westerly direction through open fields with a lovely open view towards Nailsea and the Severn Estuary. We then head up Gatcombe Lane into the Ashton Hill Plantation which contains some giant Sequoia trees. After looping through the plantation we head into open meadow above Fenn’s Wood and then into more woodland at The Break and Keeds Wood before returning back down Keeds Lane to the car park.
The walk is gentle and easy-going and suitable for all abilities (there is one moderately steep 15 min uphill section on a track in Ashton Plantation). Distance is 3-4 miles and total walking time is 2–3 hours at a slowish, gentle pace, including a tea break. Weather permitting, we can have a picnic lunch after the walk at the picnic area (with two picnic tables) adjacent to the car park.
Friends, family, children and dogs are welcome. Part of the walk (30-40min) will be in silence.
Meet at the Long Ashton Community Centre car park at 10am. Map link here.
There is a regular bus service to Long Ashton from Bristol and there is a bus stop at the bottom of Keeds Lane. There is also a good cycle route to Long Ashton from Bristol city centre which goes through the lower part of Ashton Court Estate.
Please let me know in advance if you would like to come on the walk at gordonadam@blueyonder.co.uk
With warm wishes,
Gordon
HEALTH AND SAFETY – PLEASE READ
Every Bristol Insight activity is required to have a Health & Safety policy, partly for insurance purposes. Walkers are asked to abide by the following guidelines:
Please wear/bring clothing that is appropriate for the conditions and weather, for example: walking boots; waterproof (and ideally windproof) clothing; drinking water/tea; something to sit on for lunch/tea breaks; snacks; sun cream if the weather requires it; sunglasses.
Children and dogs are the responsibility of their parent(s)/guardian/owner and are not covered by BI insurance. Please be prepared to keep your dog on a lead if necessary (in certain nature reserves, or if livestock are in fields). The walk leader will carry a basic first aid kit.
The walk leader will give an advance assessment of the difficulty and conditions on the walk and will advise if any special precautions are needed. It is up to parents to assess whether the walk is within the capacity of any children. Walks are at a slow/gentle pace – we walk at the pace of the slowest person, and have frequent pauses in walking, so that no one feels pressurised to keep up.
