The group meets monthly (every 4-5 weeks) between 11am-2pm at Bristol Zen Dojo, 91-93 Gloucester Road, Bristol BS7 8AT. The group is open to anyone, regardless of Focusing experience, and involves a short period of meditation and some group sharing as well as Focusing with a partner (or partners) in a safe and supportive setting. Dana is invited to cover the rental of the space and for Gordon’s facilitation of the group.
Focusing is very compatible with Insight Meditation, and could be described as a practice of ‘body mindfulness with a partner’. The Focuser turns her attention inwards and verbally describes sensations/emotions arising in her body to the companion, hears these descriptions reflected back, then checks to see if this feels right. This connecting, verbalising, reflecting and checking process generally has the effect of enabling a deepening into the experience. This often leads to an inner ‘shift’ taking place which can include emotional release, insight and an increased sense of inner freedom.
