This is a lovely, virtually completely flat, 8 mile walk from Bradford-on-Avon to Bath, following the tranquil and idyllic Kennet and Avon Canal. Walking time will be about 3-4 hours, with a break for lunch at The George Inn at Bathampton. The last part of the walk follows the canal through Bath to the railway station, offering some nice city perspectives.
We will get the train to Bradford-on-Avon from Bristol Temple Meads, walk to Bathampton for lunch, then walk from Bathampton to Bath Spa station and then get the train back to Bristol. We should get back to Bristol by about 4pm.
There are three meet-up options:
Montpelier Station at 9.30am for the 9.34 train to Bristol Temple Meads
Bristol Temple Meads at 10.15am for the 10.22 train to Bradford-on-Avon
Bradford-on-Avon Station at 10.45am to start the walk
The return fare from Montpelier or Temple Meads to Bradford-on-Avon is £11.10, or £7.35 with a railcard.
Family, friends, children and dogs are welcome on the walk, part of which will be in silence. If you want to bring your own lunch there are outside tables at the pub. A child could cycle or scooter the walk as the path is flat (although there are various sets of steps to be negotiated in the final city part of the walk).
Let Gordon know by Friday 13th if you’d like to come on the walk and where you would like to join us. gordonadam@blueyonder.co.uk 0779 6087351
