Gray Hill and Wentworth Reservoir
The next Bristol Insight sangha walk will be a circular 3–4 mile walk up and around Gray Hill (near Caerwent, Monmouthsire) on Sunday 4th August. Gray Hill stands next to Wentwood Reservoir (near Caerwent, Monmouthshire) and the top of the hill offers excellent views of the Severn Estuary and surrounding countryside including the Brecon Beacons, and is a good spot for kite flying. This is a 2 hour walk at a gentle pace, with one brief but steep ascent of Gray Hill.
We will start the walk from the car park at the Wentwood Forest Picnic Area car park (postcode NP26 3AZ), about a mile north of Llanvair-Discoed. We will head west a short distance to the bottom of Gray Hill and a steep (20 minute) ascent of the hill follows (we will go very slowly) and then we will pause to rest and enjoy the views in all directions. We then continue westwards across the top of the hill before spiralling clockwise round and down the outside of the hill, finally ending up back where we started the climb.
Meet at St Andrews Park (entrance by the toilets) at 10am to share lifts, or at 10.45am at the start of the walk. Bring food with you and we can have a picnic lunch in the picnic area after the walk.
Family, friends, children and dogs are welcome on the walk, part of which will be in silence.
Let Gordon know in advance if you would like to come on the walk, where you would like to meet, and whether you can offer or would like a lift from Bristol. gordonadam@blueyonder.co.uk or 0779 6087351
