If the lockdown ends as expected on 2nd December, I invite you to join me on a sangha walk to Stanton Drew Stone Circles on Saturday 5th December.
The walk will start at the church (St Thomas a Becket) in Pensford (7ml south of Bristol on the A37), and proceeds through rolling lanes and fields to picturesque Stanton Drew village and then to the stone circles. Although The Druids Arm Pub in Stanton Drew will likely be open, it’s pretty small and people may feel uncomfortable with unavoidable ‘social closeness’ so I suggest we all bring a picnic lunch (and warm clothes!) and have a ‘socially distanced’ lunch at the stone circles. These are a complex of three separate circles from the Late Neolithic period (3000-2500BC). The ‘Great Circle’ (113m diameter) is the largest stone circle in Britain after the one in Avebury.
After lunch we will walk back through fields and along the River Chew to Pensford passing under the spectacular Pensford viaduct.
The walk is gentle and easy-going and suitable for all abilities. Distance is only 3-4 miles and total walking time is no more than 2 hours, and with a break for lunch at the stone circles.
Friends, family and children are welcome. (No dogs are allowed in the stone circle area). Part of the walk (30-40min) will be in silence.
Meet by the church at Pensford at 11am. If coming by car, you can park on Church Street which runs along the front of the church. Click here for a Google Maps link.
You can also get the 376 bus from the bus station (at 10.20) or Temple Meads Station (T1 stop at 10.34) arriving at Pensford at 10.53. Return journeys are every 30 minutes.
We will follow the usual covid-19 safety protocols, avoiding close proximity, physical contact and food sharing, and the number of participants on the walk may be limited. Please don’t come on the walk if you have coronavirus symptoms or have been in contact with anyone known to have coronavirus.
