Shipham.jpg

This is a varied and pleasant walk through fields and ancient pathways with attractive views all the way round. It contains some interesting features including: an ancient forge, a relic of lead mining; the remains of a toilet built for Italian prisoners of wars; and the possibility of seeing some donkeys and/or llamas. The walk will take in Lyncombe Hill and the hamlet of Winterhead.

The walk is 4.5 miles and takes about 2.5 to 3 hours at a gentle pace. There are uphill stretches (not steep) at the beginning and end. There will be a period of silence during the walk. Friends and family, including children and dogs, are welcome.

The walk begins at the Village Hall in Shipham where there is car parking space. There is the possibility for food afterwards at the Penscot Inn in the village, or The Swan at nearby Rowberrow, or bring a picnic lunch. Shipham is just off the A38 past Churchill ….. turn left immediately after the Texaco garage.

Meet at St Andrews Park (entrance by the park toilets on Sommerville Road) for lift sharing from Bristol with a 10am departure, or at Shipham Village Hall for a prompt 11am start to the walk
